Eight building
From Staples High Wiki
The Eight building was one of the original nine buildings of the North Avenue campus, through Generation Three and Four of Staples. Originally it contained just the Main Office (which also was home to Guidance/Assistant Principals before Modernization), and a much-smaller Library on what was turned into classrooms and a computer lab (885) as part of Modernization. What remains of it now have been renovated and turned into Building G.
During Modernization, the building changed heavily besides the addition of brick (like for the rest of the buildings). First of all, a little more space was added to the north of the main office, giving it an obtuse angle instead of a right angle at the left end. More importantly, the Guidance and Assistant Principal offices moved out, and the Library moved into a newly-built structure across the hall from where it was before. In the aftermath, the old Library's evidence remained by the "bulge" that could have been seen from the South Courtyard.
After Modernization, the Eight Building was used by some English classes, the Computer Lab (885), and many of the Special Education rooms. Additionally, some social workers (i.e. Susan Fugitt) had offices there, as well as an additional Macintosh computer lab for Design and Technology class.
As part of the recent construction project, the areas of the Eight Building excluding the Main Office and Library were demolished. The remainder of the areas were gutted and renovated; the Library has just recently been renovated and is approaching its opening; the original Main Office and Radio Station are now the new Guidance wing. A whole new erection of bricks and windows was placed to re-enclose the building in the aftermath of the demolitions.
During the 2004-2005 school year, Charles Dumais's office was located in this building, contrary to the Assistant Principal's office at the time, located beside the Cafeteria. Only after the February 2005 move was his office once again with the rest of that department.
After the February 27 reopening of Library and Guidance, the building undertook the name of Building G. Almost no mention of "Eight Building" is heard today. Additionally, rooms in this new building are labeled 5xx, or the "5 building" as called by some.
