Nicholas Mariconda
From Staples High Wiki
Nicholas Mariconda, (1954-), is the instructor of Band courses at Staples. He conducts rehearsals for all three bands as well as a portion of the individual lessons for his students. Additionally, he is the supervisor of the Jazz Band, a seperate ensemble that meets as an organization.
He began teaching here in 1976, making him second for a music teacher only to Frank Coppola at Coleytown Middle School for years in the Westport School system.
His style of rehearsal includes a three-section warmup, followed by the rehearsal of all necessary pieces for the time being. The warmup sections are a six-note study (ranging from F to B flat, chromatically), followed by "seconds" (one note, followed by the next note up on a B flat scale, then back to the previous note, going up one step until a default maximum). He'll also go to "thirds" (interval increasing two notes in the middle), and as high up as "octaves" (eighths), in which each middle note is an octave over the last. Warmups may go on to do a few musical scales in some circumstances.
