Staples Demolition

Demolition at Staples was a part (and perhaps the most interesting) of the 2003-2006 renovation project. The plan was intended to demolish the entirety of Buildings Five, Six, Seven, and Nine, while partially demolishing the old forms of Four and Eight, for the reasons of the fact that these buildings were falling apart and that renovations could not take place in such areas in part of the New building's construction.

Contrary to popular belief, the process of demolishing each of these buildings actually took several weeks. The process includes first completely vacating the buildings of valuable equipment, followed by removal of asbestos particles that were included with the flooring and ceilings when these buildings were built, followed by cleaning the buildings out of loose materials (i.e. ceiling boards and wall-mounted implements (i.e chalkboards). Only then does an excavator come in to demolish the building, which itself takes several weeks to do.

All demolitions of this ongoing construction project have now been completed.
