WWPT-FM
WWPT 90.3FM is Staples' student-run radio station. It broadcasts commercial-free 24 hours a day, playing pre-recorded shows overnight and at other times when students are not on the air. WWPT also goes by the name Wrecker Radio. The official station breakers and top-of-the-hour station ID were produced by Blake Nebel.
The station, which began production in 1973, broadcasts from an antenna at the Rolenick Observatory northeast of the campus. It has a broadcast radius of about 60 km on land (more out on the water, depending how far off shore). There have been reports that Mr. Honeycutt has gotten the station from as far away from New Haven, and due to the water effects on waves, some towns on Long Island can also tune in.
The broadcast room was located in the Eight building originally (in a room just north of the old Main Office, directly across from the AV room and the Library. It closed in June 2005, and as of September 2005, it operates in a studio just beyond the new Media Lab in Building F.
